Peel the apples. Cut into thin slices and arrange them in a baking dish lightly greased with butter.

Spread the sweetened condensed milk, mixed with 3 egg yolks and strained, over the top. Bake in a low oven until the apple is soft and the dessert is slightly creamy.

Remove from the oven and cover with a very firm meringue made with the egg whites and sugar.

Return the baking dish to the oven only to dry and brown the meringue. Serve in the baking dish itself.
